How we got started

People growing their own food seems to be an ever-popular activity. With food prices ever rising and doubts being expressed about the quality of some of the food available in the shops people are clamouring to grow their own. Waiting lists for allotments are getting longer and advice on how to 'grow your own' is coming from all quarters.

The question is - What do you do if you'd like to have a go at growing fruit and vegetables but have no experience and just no idea how to go about it?

We are S E Essex WEN decided we'd learn more and have more fun if we got together to work a group allotment, sharing the work, sharing ideas, sharing the produce!

At the end of 2008 two great things happened which move us on with the work: we were allocated a plot in Manchester Drive, Leigh on Sea, allotments; we were awarded £4,000 by Grassroots Grants which is funded by the Office of the Third Sector with which we plan to get the scheme up and running.

Then along came Bill who set up a website for us and we are having to get used to working on the allotment as well as using the website's blog to keep a very useful blog of just what we are doing.
